About Marion County

Found in the north-central area of Florida, Marion County is the home of Ocala. This county has a population of about 365K residents. It’s known for the large natural attraction called the Ocala National Forest, extending into three counties in Florida.

Ocala is the largest city in Marion County. The county is also home to the trendy retirement area called The Villages. While The Villages is found in three counties, a portion is in Marion County. Many other communities are found here, but these are the two most-known areas of Marion County.

While Ocala National Forest is the largest attraction in the area, there are several other attractions. Glass-bottom boat tours are found in the area and very popular. The Silver Springs State Park is also located here, along with Rainbow Springs State Park. It’s also home to the College of Central Florida.

Marion County, and specifically Ocala, is known to be the Horse Capital of the World. They recently opened up the new World Equestrian Center, which is the largest equestrian complex in the United States.

Many top employers are found throughout the area, including Publix Super Market and Wal-Mart. The public school system and the area medical centers are some of the top employers in the area.

Marion County is also home to the Ocala International Airport. This airport offers an excellent option for tourists and those needing to travel for business.
